Understanding the funding ecosystem of feminist movements

Where is the money for feminist organizing?

What do we want to change?

Power in the current feminist funding ecosystem is unbalanced. 99% of international aid fails to reach feminist organizations and movements directly. Three quarters of the funding never leaves development agencies and the remaining money goes almost entirely to international NGOs. We are convinced that if feminist activists and movements themselves define the priorities and conditions of funding in dialogue with donors, we will move in the direction that feminist agendas demand and propose.

What is our contribution?

Pur-ple accompanies AWID’s work to generate data and evidence on the financial realities of feminist movements globally, and produce information to advocate for more and better funding. We developed a quantitative data production tool as part of the «Where is the Money for Feminist Organizing?» project, which includes research, advocacy, communication and promotion components on the approach and needs of feminist movements.
